I’ve been using L3b’s text watermark from the day I installed L3b. I’ve got an existing image for watermark in PhotoShop, but I’ve been lazy setting it up in LightRoom. But finally… Read more
Damn, missed the first wave in the morning (local time), though I was up just half of a hour after the first announcement. The whole day being busy working and finally got time to check the new version. This looks quite interesting.
There is four ways to watermark your images in Lightroom 3b. You could use the Print or Web module or you could go with Export…, File/Export, or use Publish Services. Don’t mix-up File/Export… and File/Export as Catalog. The Latter is for exporting selected photos as a new Catalog.
Go to Edit/Edit Watermarks and create your watermark either as a text or from a PNG/JPG image. There is a glitch in text watermark that you should be aware of. You may need to add an extra space after the last letter, otherwise it might drop when located to the bottom right corner and text aligned to right.
After you’ve done with the watermark, it’s all up to applying it to the photo. This is done when you either export your photos or use the Print or Web module to hand them out. You won’t see your watermark in the Library, Develop and Slideshow modules.
In Print module, go to Page panel, check Watermarking and select your copyright preset from the dropdown list. In Web module watermark option is in Output Settings panel, just check Watermarking and select your preset.
For Export… (in the left panel group of the Library module) and File/Export you find an option in Settings: Watermarking. Again check Watermark and select your preset. You could save your export settings as a preset, and later on just select File/Export with Preset or File/Export with Previous to export selected photos again with previous settings.
There is a panel called Publish Services for drag’n'drop in Library module, where you could create settings for exporting photos to your hard drive or to your Flickr account. There is a option for Watermarking.
If you don’t want to use a custom watermark, you could always use the Lightroom preset Simple Copyright Watermark, which adds your name to bottom left corner of the photo. It is an option in Web module, but I haven’t seen any output in preview. Though it works with Export and Publish Services.
I usually go for File/Export when exporting stuff for this site. I don’t do that much printing nor have a need for a web export, so the Print and Web modules have not been in frequent use.
I upped a set of images on the site to discover that there is a bug in Lightroom 3 b. My watermark lost the last digit from 2009. I already found a roundabout, just add extra space after the last letter and you are done. I should reload the set, but for now they can stay on the server. I think I will report this to Adobe, but it has to wait until I get my other OS up and running.
